In addition to his success during his time as the Patriots offensive coach, O'Brien has been lauded for the job he's done during his tenure at Penn State. He had a 15-9 mark as a member of his team, the Nittany Lions, despite significant sanctions on scholarships. The team was awarded Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2012 as well as receiving the national coach of the year honors from ESPN and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

This Penn State contract runs through the end of 2016 and includes the $6. 48 million buyout, as per Adam Schefter.
