The Dark Wanderer visits Marius from the opening cutscene of Diablo 2 Resurrected Items. The doors to the prison swing open on their own, like magic has forced the hinges to move. It is a memorable moment, one which determines this presence of magic and power to your Dark Wanderer. But this wasn't always the case. Pre-release marketing materials for Diablo 2 showcased a warden character opening the doorway for the Dark Wanderer. This was the original intent the warden exist to open up the door, but that personality never made it into the game. It altered the context of this scene. From the shipped version, the Dark Wanderer doesn't seem invited; they open their particular route.

In Diablo 2 Resurrected, the newly announced remaster of Diablo 2, Blizzard Entertainment could've discovered that cinematic and brought the warden in. However, no matter the initial intention or what makes more sense from the spectacle, that goes against Blizzard's philosophy for Resurrected.

Prior to BlizzConline, we talked to Rod Fergusson, executive producer of the Diablo franchise at Blizzard, and Rob Gallerani, principal designer at Blizzard's support studio, Vicarious Visions. And after working on the business's"worst-kept secret," the pair were apparent on Diablo 2 Resurrected: This really is actually the Diablo 2 you understand, warts and all.

"This is not a movie," said Fergusson. "We are not reverse-engineering itwe're not rebuilding it trying to make it look and sound like [Diablo 2]. This ist's right there, beneath the surface. The whole simulation, the motor for this match, that lifeblood of the game, is correct underneath. So there is a toggle button, a heritage toggle, that when you press the button, you'll see behind the drapes, and there is Diablo 2 in 2D sprites running directly there, and now you can play how you played 20 years back."

In our 30-minute conversation, the couple could not have made the philosophy for Diablo 2 Resurrected more clear. It is -- because it needed to be -- the sport players recalled. Blizzard believed that buy Diablo Gold many deviations, even important quality-of-life features, would be a step too far.
