Legit case in one of those Pokemon games too. You choose the woman character because her character is very....girly lmao and Animal Crossing Bells so she does lots of extra cutesy wootsy bullshit that takes up time when she is an NPC. The man character is very stoic in contrast and cuts out all of the extra stuff. That's just the sort of thing that's ruining D&D at the moment, you joke about it people are legitimately fighting for Orc rights. The very concept of having a race which leans towards evil alignment in a universe where alignment is important and enforced with magic that exists in universe is racist.

Didn't they say they are eliminating'race' for next entries because iT wAs rAcIsT? I don't understand about D&D but I have always been a fan of Warhammer Fantasy RPG and I swear to god in the previous rulebook they say'species' instead of'races' like in last variant, wtf is wrong with everything. They removed racial bonuses in the latest rule publication. You pick your own today so you can be a powerful elf or an intelligent orc.

They did not even eliminate racial bonuses, they gave you the option to change them if you want.

The matter is, people could have been doing this anyway, but it's in the official rules for 5e. Like, among the greatest items in DnD is homebrew and tweaking the rules as you see fit. If people do not desire evil orcs, they could just not have bad orcs in their campaign, it's so simple.I listen to Not Another D&D Podcast and their campaign exists in a universe where interbreeding has been something for millenia, so that there are no"races". Every being is a great number of different racial aspects.

For player characters it let the players select one civic"class" while using their personality look however the desire, and all beings are extremely"human-monster hybrid".

Eg. Emily's PC, Fia, is portrayed as being violet skinned and fanged, marginally"orcish" in her face however extended and gangly elven physique. She uses the racial stats of Vedalken. It is a mishmash of different descriptions that works good having a"look how you want, but employ a race's attributes".

It's also an optional rule. Personally, I think it's a bit OP because you can chose a feat onto every race (a feat is essentially like a talent and some are extremely powerful ), but in the end it's to make your character more flexible when you want to play with an Orc Wizard f.e. and do not have much use for your bonus strength. It's more fun because you can play some other race as any class but it makes races just another bit of fluff information that you inform your party once and then they forget the whole game their wizard is a half-orc.

Plus the whole thing started because a group of Animal Crossing Items For Sale people were complaining about orcs being racist because they are D&D depiction of black individuals seemingly, even though individuals are a distinct race...
