While Modders like Martinez was working on the console variations over the previous ten decades, the PC version gave them more accessibility to Madden 21 coins the Frostbite game engine which programmer EA uses. The Madden modders piggybacked the modding communities of games which use Frostbite from. Mods, while incredibly common, aren't strictly legal. End-user license agreements (EULA) usually include language calling Madden NFL players from modifying in-game files, even though most studios require a relaxed approach to handling communities similar to this one.

"The copyright holder gets the right, but unlike trademarks that they do not need to protect it," attorney Richard Hoeg said when asked about how publishers can react and halt modders. "If you look at the EA license, you're not technically permitted to stream, however there are loads of Twitch streamers playing Madden."

"If EA looks in the content and finds it is not offensive they may see it as improving the quality of the product," Hoeg said. "But the NFL is an incredibly litigious organization[.] If they discover something and flag it that could lead to it getting taken down." Most of what the modding community does could be considered favorable, but there also have been attempts to introduce off-the-field issues prevalent within the NFL within Madden. For instance, modders have tried to replicate holdouts and suspensions due to prohibited performance enhancing drugs by adding in-game occasions which would disrupt the franchise mode and induce the Madden NFL participant to bargain with them. The modders Launcher spoke with for this story said they've encountered difficulty in creating this work within Madden's inflexible systems.

"The NFL will be mainly concerned about brand good will, being correlated with all the terrible parts of football," Hoeg said. "They are going to encourage [EA] to remove that." The Madden community doesn't operate in secrecy, but it's spread across different forums and programs like Discord. "We've been around for such a long time, I don't see what would change with EA now," Martinez said. "We don't charge, it is all free. We are building something and expect to continue to see it grow"

Martinez says that the community is adding new content and features almost daily. Many parts of Madden NFL they change are modest, such as changing the ESPN broadcast logo to FOX when the incorrect network is displayed in-game for a particular matchup. The shift might seem subtle, but it's an important component for Madden NFL gamers who need the most real experience possible for their time with Madden. "It's an immersion thing, we would like to buy Mut 21 coins go through the same thing that comes up when we see a match on TV," Martinez said, imagining a hope their work eventually becomes a formal part of Madden NFL. "we would like to make the experience better for us and get EA to see what we're doing"
