In the moment that Diablo Immortal was Diablo 4 Gold announced at BlizzCon 2018. A single participant in the crowd stood with the makers of the mobile game free-to-play to inquire: "Is this an out-of-season April Fools' joke?" The general ridicule and vitriol was the norm for Diablo Immortal up until its recent release.

It's been the same since. However, it's not the quick-witted reaction to disappointing announcements or the fact that the game is playable via mobile platforms. It's the result of Diablo Immortal's microtransactions, which even though they're a bit shady, were not created out of air.

Diablo Immortal is doused in many in-game transactionsan ever-growing wall of offers that boast inflated percentages to make players believe to believe that the more you spend you, the more you save. This is a common practice in the mobile market for many years, no matter how different the appearance may have appeared.

You see it with Genshin Impact's Genesis Crystal store, where purchasing large quantities of money will give players an even larger quantity of the same currency. It's also evident in the case of Lapis -the currency paid that is used in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius -and entices players with "bonus" currency that reaches the thousands when purchasing packs that are worth upwards of $100.

"A typical strategy for mobile games or any game using microtransactions, is to make the currency," an anonymous employee who works in the mobile gaming industry has cheap Diablo IV Gold recently shared his thoughts with me. "Like when I pay $1, I could get two currencies (gold and jewels for instance).
