Following the loss of its director prior to 2021 following various investigations and lawsuits alleging allegations of a "frat boy" workplace culture at Activision Blizzard, Diablo IV is scheduled to launch in 2023. The game will allow crossing-progression and crossplay between PC as well as consoles. Blizzard recently announced new details about Diablo IV's fifth and final launch class, called the Necromancer.
We talked to Diablo 4 director Joe Shely and general manager of the Diablo franchise Rod Fergusson about the current state of Diablo and what their plans are for Diablo 4. and what the game has been created to meet them.
It's an exciting moment for Diablo. The launch of Immortal and now you've shown off some parts from Diablo 4. Rod as the director for the Diablo franchise, could you give us a temperature report on the Diablo franchise? Where are you at and where do you think it is required to be?
Rod Fergusson: I think there's never been a better time to be a Diablo fan and Diablo player. We have Diablo in play, it's been since the beginning of time however, even during its most recent season, Season 26. We have 150 million hours of gaming.
We just hit 65 million players that played Diablo. This month, we had Diablo 2: Resurrected come backand more than five and a half million players that came back to play D2:R, the 21st-year-old PC game which is now remastered and is
cheap D2R Ladder Items available on consoles as well.
